The beaver memorial acknowledges that the dams, ponds and associated wetlands created by beaver are known to increase groundwater percolation, which raises local groundwater tables and increases water storage.  The memorial also recognizes the critical role that ecosystem restoration could play in protecting and recovering many imperiled species. A New Mexico icon in the outdoor sports, Bob Gerding passed away on 18 December after a long bout with cancer. He was born in Denver, but the family moved to New Mexico in the mid-1940s. He attended Highland High School and graduated with a degree in business management from the University of New Mexico and in 2007 was elected to the Anderson School of Management Hall of Fame. Fly Tiers Roundtable Meeting Night Change
The New Mexico Trout Fly Tiers Roundtable get together has changed nights, from its regular Monday time to every Tuesday, 7:00pm excluding holidays and the Tuesdays of the monthly NMT meeting. The meeting is still held in the Sandia Prep Lab classroom, the first lab room you come to from the parking lot on the end of the building. The Flytyer's Roundtable brings new and experienced tyers together to exchange ideas, techniques and materials. Our raffle for a Winston Boron IIX TU Special fly rod, culminated in the selection of a winner from the 126 tickets sold for the raffle. Rick Pettit is the lucky gentleman who won the rod. The prize was delivered just before Christmas and needless to say he was ecstatic. Our thanks to Milt McConnell for donating this new rod for the raffle.
