Netherwood Park, Albuquerque NM, United States

    NM Trout Member Casting Clinics

We are delighted to announce that New Mexico Trout is bringing back our casting clinics that we began last spring. This offers members of New Mexico Trout a fantastic opportunity to jump start their fly fishing skills.

We are going to change things up a bit from last year's clinics, this year we will offer 2 clinics for beginners and then 1 clinic for intermediate level casters. The beginner clinics are intended for persons with no fly casting experience to beginner level casters.

Intermediate level clinics are designed for people that have experience but are having difficulty with some aspects of their cast or would like to build on their capabilities.

Participants will have the chance to learn from experienced instructors while connecting with fellow members who share their passion for our sport. With only 15 spots available for each clinic, we encourage you to register promptly to ensure your participation in this exclusive event.

The clinics are free but participants must be members of New Mexico Trout! https://www.newmexicotrout.org/membership/

    Wednesday, April 29, 5:30 pm – beginner clinic 1
Saturday, May 16, 9:00 am – beginner clinic 2
Wednesday, May 20, 5:30 pm – intermediate clinic

Clinics will take place at Netherwood Park, west of Carlisle and north of Indian School [ location ]. Bring your own gear if you have it or we will have rods if you need one to use. Water will be provided for participants. Clinics will last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, give or take.

  • New Mexico Trout Group Outing to Cyclone Lake

    May 29, 2026 - May 31, 2026 @

New Mexico Trout is planning a group outing to the White Mountain Apache Reservation on the last weekend of May, May 29th – May 31st. The lake doesn’t open until Memorial Day, so this is the first weekend it is available. This a one of the tribes Rent-A-Lake offerings and we plan on renting the lake for the entire three days, no one else will have access to it at this time. The dates will be confirmed once the reservation has been made.

The lake sits at 9000 feet elevation and is 37 acres in size.

Camping costs are included with the lake rental and there is enough room for up to 30 moderate sized rigs. No electricity or water hookups are provided so if you are camping plan accordingly.

There is a campground next to the lake for those that would like to camp or there are lodging options in Greer or the Hondah/Pinetop area. Pinetop is approximately 20 miles away and Greer is approximately 26.5 miles away.

Cost will be $75 for the lake and fishing permit per person.

We have had enough responses to the newsletter and monthly gathering announcements that we’ll reserve the lake as soon as it is allowed. We’ll start taking paid reservations in mid-March.
