Youth clinics: May 26, June 23, July 21, August 18, and September 22 [link] Volunteers from New Mexico Trout conduct fly fishing clinics for youths, allowing up to 20 participants the opportunity to fish the headwaters of the East Fork of the Jemez River on the Preserve. Participants spend a half day learning about equipment, tackle, knots, stream insect sampling and identification. A screening of "Red Gold", an Award Winning documentary on the threat to Alaska's last wild salmon fishery, will be held in Albuquerque on 9 Feb. The Valles Caldera Trust recently released their report to Congress, outlining its activities and progress in the management of the natural preserve. In spite of the devastating Las Conchas fire which limited access to the much of the areas in the preserve and forced cancellation of many events/activities, the Valles Caldera saw a 13% increase in visitation, and a 10.8% increase in overall revenue. Of particular interest to NMT is the report of a significant loss of the fish populations in some of the area creeks.
