September 21 Volunteer Project Cancelled
The Sept 21 project assisting the Santa Fe National Forest in building an elk and cattle exclosure on the upper Rio San Antonio is cancelled for this year.  The Forest Service has been unable to get a contract in place for the heavy duty auger that will be required to dig the post holes. Francis Peter, Youth Program Chair So far, the Valles Caldera has not been hit by extreme flooding except for some runoff on Redondo Creek. That seems to be the source for much of the ash coming down the Jemez. As reported in the Albuquerque Journal, much of the Thompson Ridge fire has been beneficial to the VNCP. But some of the areas affected by the Los Conchas fire continue to be impacted by flooding and erosion into the rivers. All of the buildings in the Historic Ranch district are intact. Volunteers are requested to help with Fly Tying and Fly Casting during this show. Kevin Holladay, at the NM Department of Game and Fish has asked for some help this year from New Mexico Trout at the Albuquerque Outdoor Expo from August 16-18 at the City of Albuquerque Shooting Range Park out on the west mesa.  He would like help at the catfish pool for Friday afternoon, 12:00pm - 4:00pm as well as Saturday and Sunday, 9:00am - 5:00pm. Reserve the Date: June 1 Volunteer Project and BBQ
Ron Loehman Conservation Chairman Plan to join other NM Trout Volunteers on June 1st to build structures that will help the Rio Cebolla recover from the effects of unauthorized vehicles along its banks. The location is about 4 miles north of Porter's Landing where FR 376 crosses the Cebolla, across the valley from where we installed the interpretive panels last year. We will be working to close off an informal road along the creek that was decommissioned in the recent Forest Service travel management plan.
