From the January 2015 Newsletter Noah Parker the owner of The Land of Enchantment Guides was the featured speaker at the January 13 general meeting. Noah's guiding operation is Orvis endorsed and is one of the best fly fishing guiding operations in New Mexico. Noah provided an armchair tour of the Chama river and its tributaries, Wolf Creek and Brazos, from the Colorado border to below Abiquiu dam. by Ron Loehman, Conservation Chair From the January 2015 Newsletter Last month a small delegation from New Mexico Trout met with Erik Taylor, who assumed the District Ranger position last August for the Jemez District of the Santa Fe National Forest. Erik previously was the District Ranger for the Caddo-Lyndon B. Johnson National Grasslands in Texas, and before that he was with the Klamath National Forest in California. Erik began his job as District Ranger shortly after the New Mexico Meadow Jumping Mouse was listed as an endangered species. Dates have been set for the youth/adult fly fishing clinics for 2015 at the Valles Caldera National Preserve. New Mexico Trout will again provide the instructors for the clinics. New for this year we will be conducting the casting practice on a large stock tank rather than on land. Also new this year we will be fishing San Antonio Creek for the fishing part of the clinic. As in past years, the clinics will be held on weekends and the volunteers and students will be able to stay overnight in either the bunkhouse or the lodge. Dates for this year are June 20 ... In the tradition of the late, great Bob Gerding show, this is the largest outdoor & sporting show in New Mexico. From the December 2014 Newsletter New Mexico's Interstate Stream Commission voted to notify the U.S. Interior Department that it wants to take advantage of federal funding to build a diversion and storage system along the Gila River. The Commission also decided that some of the money should go toward municipal conservation efforts and other projects aimed at stretching the drought-stricken region's water supplies. State Engineer Scott Verhines, New Mexico's top water official and a member of the commission, said the point of regional water planning is to identify and implement strategies to balance supply and demand.
